One remark I made in the original draft, but deleted for brevity, is that I think presumptions about hell have been made on both sides of the debate. Most of our arguments about it are based on where we've filled in the gaps.

Glad to have you here. One observation I make about dark places or seasons in our lives--particularly the "dark night of the soul"--is that part of it is that you *can't* really see or feel God in those moments. I cannot tell you how often I felt completely abandoned. That is when we must make the choice (sometimes moment by moment) to trust in Him regardless, and that's why this season is ultimately such a builder of faith. Just trying to say that it is "normal" (whatever that is) not to be able to see God in those times, and have to just take it on faith that He is there.

As I suggested to co-heir above, I think assumptions are made on both sides of the debate. We forget that the Scripture is actually quite vague about both heaven and hell, and many of our beliefs about both are based on filling in the gaps. This is important to remember, because it's hard to believe that we can just apply our limited human logic to this, and come up with an accurate picture; we just don't have enough information, and we don't see the big picture like God does. That's why I consider these thoughts to be a speculation--an idea of what *might* be true about it. :)

Heaven, hell, and the creation story are all like SciFi to me. Without much detail to go on, I fill in the blanks with my imagination and logic. It makes for some interesting thought processes for sure!

i just happened on your blog through a link from another blog i read. i enjoyed those thoughts so much that i'm going to link you now too.
that bit about the dark night of the soul really spoke to me because it's been pretty dark recently. God is there and i've known that, i just want to see more of God in those moments.
